Student leadership at CMU-SV

At CMU-SV, students bring bold ideas and fresh perspectives. Many are eager to contribute to the student community in meaningful ways.
Leadership Pathways is our way of empowering students to lead, create, and make an impact across the campus. Supported by the Student Affairs team, this program gives you the tools and guidance to bring your ideas to life.
Through Leadership Pathways, you can:
- Host events or workshops that bring exciting and relevant ideas to campus, like an AI hackathon or a fireside chat with industry experts.
- Organize shared-interest groups that build community, such as a hiking trip, chess group, or casual pickleball meetup.
- Launch student-led projects that solve real challenges and create lasting impact on campus.
You can also join Student Impact Advisory, where students work alongside Student Affairs to shape campus projects, share ideas, and build leadership skills. Past projects include using design thinking to launch a new campus food program based directly on student input. Meetings are open to all students and happen a few times each semester.
There are leadership opportunities within each academic department as well. Your program team will share more about those once the semester begins.
Curious about how you might get involved? Check out our student leadership page to further explore how current students are making an impact on campus.
Campus life and community engagement
Things move fast at CMU-SV, but it’s not all work and no play. We’re big on finding time to recharge, have fun, and build a campus community that feels like home.
Here’s a glimpse at what student life looks like on campus:

- Signature events
Celebrate with the whole campus through seasonal traditions, cultural festivals, and end-of-semester parties. These gatherings are always filled with good food, great energy, and a few friendly competitions. (ex: CMU-SV Carnival, Lunar New Year, Holi, Halloween and more!) - Everyday fun
We know grad school is intense, and taking a break matters. That’s why we create regular opportunities for students to relax, recharge, and connect. Join in on meditation, board games, ping pong, karaoke, pickleball, or just hang out with friends. We also host healthy snack days so you can refuel with something tasty between classes. - The Fun Squad
Want to help shape campus life and bring your event ideas to life? The Fun Squad is a team of student leaders who work with the Student Affairs team to plan events and keep the student voice front and center. Applications open after your first semester, and yes, it is as fun as it sounds!
