As a CMU-SV student, you have access to high-quality medical care. Whether you need a checkup, feel sick, or want to talk to a doctor, there are trusted local providers who can help. Since we don’t have an on-campus health center, CMU-SV partners with providers in the area to help you get the care you need, when you need it.
One Medical
A One Medical membership is included as part of your CMU-SV experience, connecting you with doctors for everyday health needs across the Bay Area through in-person and virtual appointments.
With One Medical, you can:
- Book same-day or next-day appointments
- Talk to a doctor 24/7 through their mobile app
- Visit clinics in person for checkups, illness, or general care
- Get support from doctors who take time to listen and focus on your overall health
One Medical works with CMU SHIP (the student insurance plan) and many other major insurance plans. Keep in mind that even if a doctor accepts your insurance, not every service may be fully covered. Always check your plan details if you are unsure.
Other local providers
You are not limited to One Medical. You can visit any doctor, clinic, or urgent care center that accepts your insurance. If you are using CMU SHIP, search for providers in the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield network.
There are many tools that can help you find in-network care. One option is Zocdoc, where you can:
- Search by location and insurance
- Filter by specialty or availability
- Book appointments online
Zocdoc is a helpful starting point, but you can also search through your insurance provider’s website or other healthcare directories.
Quick Tip: Before booking an appointment, always confirm that the doctor or clinic accepts your specific insurance plan. This can help you avoid unexpected costs.
What to do if you’re sick
- Book a virtual or in-person appointment through One Medical or another local provider
- Bring your insurance card (physical or digital)
- If you're not sure what’s covered, contact the medical office or check your plan details
In case of emergency
For serious or life-threatening issues, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital.
Hospitals close to CMU-SV include:
- El Camino Hospital (Mountain View)
- Stanford Health Care (Palo Alto)
Your student insurance includes emergency coverage. Check your plan for details.
